Abstract
228,955. Mitchell, r. G. Aug. 13, 1923. Transporters; gantries.-The boom a mounted for slueing between stops about a vertical axis comprises a balanced horizontal member stiffened by overhead bracing means g, h and pivoted in the transporter structure above and below the runway by means of a vertical part e mounted in bearings b, f or by means of a turntable arranged so that the jenny can travel from one side to the other of the slueing axis. The transporter structure comprises inclined frame members o, p supported at r, and vertical members s supported at t. The supports r, t may be wheeled frames or trucks running on transverse rails, and the members s may be hinged at s' to adapt the structure to tracks of different gauges. For raising the outer end of the boom to clear obstructions, the boom may be hinged at i and lifted by hauling on the tie rope h, h<1> which passes round sheaves j, j. A hopper 1 is carried on the transporter structure for loading into vehicles brought between the supports r, t. The boom is partly counterbalanced by the hoisting mechanism.
