Abstract

228,445. Newman, W. H. July 28, 1924. Shaping.-A grinding wheel for grinding screw threads and the like is shaped by a diamond or other abrasive tool B oscillated about a spindle B<2> by means of a crank F<3> and a spindle F rotated in any suitable manner. The spindle B<2> is carried in a frame C which is oscillated about a vertical axis between adjustable stops D<3>. By altering the height of the spindle B<2> with respect to the centre of the grinding wheel A, the faces formed on the wheel can be made convex, concave, or very nearly flat. By moving the spindle longitudinally, the edge of the wheel may be formed sharp as at A<2>, or rounded as at A<1>. To form a flat edge, the frame is clamped in its central position.
