227,926. Morris, E. F., and Morrice, J. A. Oct. 26, 1923. Paints; distempers; coating processes.-A process for preventing rust on iron or other ferrous metal surfaces consists in first coating them with an aqueous composition composed of a paint containing zinc yellow (basic chromate of zinc), glue, gum, or other emulsifying agent, and water with or without volatile thinners such as turpentine or white spirit, and then with a paint preferably containing zinc yellow. A suitable paint for use in making the aqueous composition and for the second coating consists of 20 per cent of zinc yellow, 5 per cent of Prussian blue and 75 per cent of fillers such as barytes, ground in a vehicle such as linseed oil.
