Abstract

227,006. Marks, E. C. R., (Bemberg, Akt.-Ges., J. P.). Feb. 15, 1924. Apparatus for making filaments.- Deposits that form on the walls of the funnel in which artificial silk &c. filaments are spun from copper - oxide - ammonia cellulose solutions and which impede the passage of the filaments, are removed by introducing from time to time a fluid that dissolves the deposits, into the precipitating-funnel or into the tapered outlet of the latter; suitable cleaning fluid is dilute acid, for instance, 10 per cent sulphuric acid. Thus, the precipitating-vessel T supplied with precipitating-fluid through a pipe s connected to a tank w, is provided with a pipe a, Fig. 1, through which cleaning-fluid is supplied from a tank b under the control of a cock h; alternatively a cock may be dispensed with and the vessel b connected by a length of flexible tubing so that it can be raised to produce a flow of liquid when the deposits are to be removed; or it may be placed permanently at a lower level and cleaning-fluid be added to it from time to time; or the pipe for the cleaning-fluid may be connected directly to the pipe s for the precipitating-fluid, for example, as shown in Fig. 5, in which case the liquid rises and flows over the edge of the inner funnel e.
