222,373. Marks, E. C. R., (Bemberg Akt.-Ges., J. P.). Feb. 15, 1924. Apparatus for making filaments. - To obviate the formation of eddycurrents in the upper of the column of coagulating-liquid in an apparatus for producing artificial silk by the drawspinning method, there is provided a funnel b or the like to which liquid is supplied in such a manner that the major portion flows to the lower outlet of the funnel, while only a small quantity flows over its upper edge. Thus the funnel b, which is flared immediately below the spinning jets e, is situated within or above a second funnel a, and the coagulating-liquid is supplied through a pipe c, Fig. 1, at some distance above the lower outlet of the funnel b; liquid passes to the upper part of the funnel through perforations in an annular support h. Alternatively, the two funnels a, b may be enclosed in a cylindrical vessel i, Fig. 2, and coagulating-liquid is supplied through a pipe c<1> at the lower part of the vessel.
