Abstract
Fats, oils, and fatty acids are bleached by hydrogen peroxide solutions containing more than 15 per cent by weight of peroxide. In examples, 5000 lb. of soya bean oil is stirred at 30 DEG C. with 75 lb. of a 20 per cent solution of hydrogen peroxide, and then heated to about 75 DEG C., and 5000 lb. of cocoanut oil fatty acid is treated at 80 DEG C. with 100 lb. of a 40 per cent solution of peroxide.
