Abstract
226,654. Levy, L. A. Nov. 12, 1923. Platinizing.-In the manufacture of a thermionic filament a layer of platinum is formed on an infusible core such as fused silica by coating the core with an organic compound as used for coating ceramic materials, and which, upon heating leaves the metal. For example a solution of platinous chloride with oil of rosemary and oil of lavender may be painted on the core, which is dried and heated to 500‹ C. The layer of platinum may be thickened by electrodeposition of platinum or other metal; or the surface of the core may be rendered conductive by using a reducing solution as in the manufacture of mirrors, and the layer thickened by electrolysis. Specifications 217,646 and 230,226, [both in Class 39 (i), Electric lamps, Arc &c.], are referred to.
