225,477. Jackson, W. J. Mellersh-, (American Chain Co., Inc.). June 24, 1924. Flat wire ropes; coupling.-A wire cable consists of two flat strands 1, 2, Figs. 4, 7, 12 and 15, of similar wavelike configuration each composed of a plurality of wires lying side by side, the strands being so plaited or intertwined that flat sides lie in contact with each other at the regions of crossing. Reinforcing strands 7 may be employed as in Fig. 7. Ends may be coupled to form a ring by a sleeve 4, Fig. 12, which is nipped at the point 5 and, if it extends as shown to the next indentations, is nipped there too. In the joint shown in Fig. 15 the wires of the meeting ends are interlaced and the sleeve given a twist. The cable is adaptable for use as a reinforcement for tyre beads and is suitable for transmitting power.
