Abstract

160,462. Moon, G. C. March 17, 1920, [Convention date]. Wire ropes are formed with an inner series of strands 2 each composed of a number of wires, and an outer series of composite strands 3, 4, the strands 4 alternating with the strands 3 and being of less diameter so as to provide a relatively smooth outer surface. The strands are all laid round the hemp or other core 1 in the same direction, and they may be twisted in the opposite direction, as shown in Fig. 1. or in the samedirection.
