Abstract
A pack for articles such as picture cards is provided with a cut out 34 for facilitating access to a flap 30 defined by cuts 32 to allow easier opening of an opening flap 26 of the pack. The flap 30 may be replaced by a slot. <IMAGE>
Description
PACK
This invention relates to a pack, and in particular a pack for picture cards.
At present, packs are very difficult to open when tightly packed full of articles.
It is accordingly an object of this invention to overcome the above problem.
In accordance with the invention, a pack for articles such as picture cards is provided with an access member and an engagement member which co-operates with the access member to allow easier opening of the pack.
Such an arrangement is much easier to open than prior art packs.
Suitably, the engagement member comprises a flap door provided on either the front or rear face, and the access member comprises a cut out portion provided on the other of the front or rear face. This allows easy access to the articles in the pack since when a finger is placed into the cut out portion to grab the front of the articles in the pack, another finger goes to grab the rear of the articles in the pack, and since there is a flap door at this point, the fingers can easily grab both front and rear of the articles in the pack.
Suitably, the opening of the pack is in the form of a flap to the side of the pack, and this flap at the side is cut at one point along its edge, such that this tends to engage end flaps which securely shut the side flap to the rest of the pack.
Alternatively, the engagement member comprises a slot cut into an extension member of either the rear face or the front face, and the access member comprises a cut-out groove provided on the other side of the rear or front face.
This allows a person to put their finger in the access member and contact the engagement member to aid the person in opening the pack.
The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 shows a plan view of a first embodiment
of a blank for a pack of articles in accordance
with the invention; and
Figure 2 shows a plan view of a second embodiment
of a blank for a pack of articles in accordance
with the invention.
In Figure 1, a blank 10 for a pack is shown having a front face portion 12, a rear face portion 14, a top end portion 18, a bottom end portion 20, a first side flap portion 22 connected to the front face, and a second side flap portion 24 connected to the rear face, which side flap portions 22 and 24 are stuck together to close permanently one side of the pack, and a further side flap portion 26 with an extended flap portion 28 which acts to open and close the pack.
The orientation of the arrangement is such that the front face and rear face portions 12 and 14 are interconnected by the top end portion 22.
The front face 12 is provided with an engagement member in the form of a flap door 30 formed by two parallel cuts 32 in the front face 14 and side flap 26. This acts in co-operation with an access member in the form of a cut-out groove 34 provided on the back face 14, such that when a person opens the entrance flap 26, they will contact one side of the articles in the pack by putting their finger in the groove 34, while another finger moves to the other side of the articles in the pack and engages the flap door 30, automatically folding opening this door such that the finger can get to the other side of the articles in the pack whereby both sides of the articles in the pack can be grabbed, and easily removed from the pack.
The left side flap 26 is also cut partly along its common edge (see 34) with the extension flap 28, and these cuts cooperate with two flaps 36 and 38 provided on the end flaps members in order to jam shut the extension flap against the rest of the pack.
In Figure 2, a blank 50 for a pack is shown having front face portion 52, a rear face portion 54, a top end portion 58, a bottom end portion 60, a first side flap portion 62 connected to the front face portion 52, a second side flap portion 64 connected to both the front face portion 52 and the rear face portion 54, and a third side flap portion 66 connected to the rear face portion 54.
The side flap portions 62 and 66 are stuck together to close permanently one side of the pack, and the end portions 58 and 60 (both with an extension flap) are used to open and close the top and bottom of the pack respectively.
The top end portion 58 is provided with an engagement member in the form of a slot 68 cut into the portion so as to extend partly between the two sides of the end portion 58. This acts in co-operation with an access member in the form of a cut-out groove 70 provided on the back face 54, such that when a person puts their finger in the groove 70, this finger contacts the slot 68 positioned behind and transverse to the groove 70 in the assembled pack, thereby enabling the person to move the extension flap of the end portion 58 and open the top of the pack.
The arrangements shown in Figures 1 and 2 are much simpler to open than prior art packs.
