Clutches and speed-varying mechanism. - A hydraulic change-speed gear comprises a pump 3 operated from the driving shaft and delivering liquid through a vaned wheel 10 on the driving shaft to one of a series of turbine wheels 11 mounted on the driven shaft 13. The turbine wheels are adjustable axially by connections from a governor on the driving shaft, and a clutch 22, 23 and a short-circuiting valve 19 are provided. The working liquid may be mercury.
