Abstract

223,978. Meurer, N. July 30, 1923. Blowpipe burners.-In a process for atomizing material in the form of wire by means of combustible gases under pressure which are fed to a nozzle system consisting of an inner, middle and outer nozzle, the atomizing gas emerging between the middle and outer nozzle, a portion of this gas is branched off from the main stream and is used to act on the main jet to change its form to one of elliptical cross-section. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the front part of the nozzle 3 is made double at diametrically-opposite parts to form passages 9 through which part of the atomizing gas is forced. In another form the nozzle 3 is provided with only one passage 9 and is cut off obliquely and provided with a hook-shaped covering-piece. In a third form, Fig. 7, the nozzle 3 is mounted so as to be rotatable producing a so-called centrifugal spray. The mouthpiece 3 is carried in a sleeve 12 provided with ball-bearing races 13, 13, the latter race being fixed to the sleeve 3 having an abutment 3<c> while the former lies against the sleeve 12. The mouthpiece 3 is rotated by a portion of the atomizing air which flows between the parts 2a, 3 passing through helical slots in a guide wheel 15 and impinging against the blades of a turbine rotor 16 mounted in an annular bore in the part 3. The air after impinging against the rotor blades escapes through apertures 17. The main portion of the atomizing air passes through grooves in the part 2 into the central aperture of the part 3b. To prevent the rotating part 3 striking against the articles to be sprayed, a protecting sleeve 19 surrounding the sleeve 12 &c. is secured on the part 3 by a nut 18. Specification 25132/13 is referred to.
