Abstract
222,564. Graham, E. A., and Rickets, W. J. July 2, 1923. Wire resistances, enclosed.-A resistance lamp of the type in which a filament formed of iron, nickel or the like is mounted between teminals in a vacuum tube or a bulb containing a non- oxidizing gas, has the filament or conductor so mounted that its temperature, in use will be maintained substantially constant throughout its length. The ends of the filament a are connected to terminals b, c of copper or silver wire of small diameter and length to prevent rapid conduction of heat from the ends of the filament, and these terminals may be supported by additional similar wires g sealed at one end in the glass. The resistance conductor may be of greater thickness at its central portions tha at its ends, or flattened towards its centre and of circular cross section at its ends. It may be former as a spiral helix with the central turns wider apart or of greater diameter than those at its ends. The lamp bulb may be internally or externally silvered.
