Abstract

Lace.-To produce a plain closely woven fabric with a double ground on a Levers' or go-through machine, three bar-controlled threads are used with each bobbin thread, i.e., a warp thread and two gimp or patterning threads. For simple patterns there may be one gimp thread with each bobbin thread and another gimp thread with every third bobbin thread. The pillars B are formed from the warp and bobbin threads and one set of gimp threads pillar therewith or are traversed to form the design. The other set of gimp threads are divided into half sets which pass as shown through the same cycle of movements over the space of four pillars B but in different phases so that open spaces left by the threads C of one half set are filled up by the other threads D. One or both half sets are carried down the pillars where the design occurs. The various threads may be of various colours or materials.
