Abstract

The device suitable for mounting on the visor of a vehicle comprises a matrix lighting panel associated with rocker switches and a press switch for displaying two different kinds of information of possible use to drivers of oncoming vehicles. Lane closures on the road behind the vehicle may be displayed by control of one set of indicators and the distance of lane closure displayed by control of a second set of indicators. The switches may be mounted on the back of the visor or on the dash-board. <IMAGE>

Description

ROAD VEHICLE INFOREIATION DEVICE This invention relates to a road vehicle signaling information to oncoming vehicles device.
The invention enables the driver to inform oncoming vehicle drivers, of the condition of the road lanes they are approaching. In particular of use on motorways the driver has knowledge of importance which with the device can be passed to oncoming vehicle drivers.
The device in the form of a matrix lighting panel fitted onto or as integral part of the drivers visor. Battery operated or wired into the vehicle electrical system enables the driver to inform the oncoming vehicles wether the road they are traveling is clear or has any lanes blocked. Also how many miles/kilometers since this vehicle passed a blocked lane. The device panel is visible in daylight and darkness.
Green lights in the vertical plane indicate a clear lane. Orange lights in the horizontal plane indicate a blocked lane. Lights of a different colour in the form of a digital display indicate the distance upto a maximum of 99 miles/kilometers since this vehicle passed the hazard. More information could be made available on the panel. The invention is suitable for cars, vans, lorries, coaches.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 - Shows in perspective the matrix lighting panel as viewed from outside the vehicle.
Figure 2 - Ilustrates a layout of rocker switches for lane indicators and on/off push button for distance. Lay out of switches etc and wording on controls would vary from model to model.
Figure 1 is on reverse side of visor from Figure 2.
To comply with the letter of the law the colour of the lights in the indicator panel, may be required to be other than shown, in the example.

Claims (7)

1. A road vehicle signaling information device comprising a matrix lighting panel. Rocker switches for each lane indicator and on/off. Press button for altering the distance indicator.
2. The invention enables a driver aware of a hazard to oncoming vehicles to pass on the information to oncoming vehicle drivers.
3. The invention may be powered by battery or from the vehicle electrical system.
4. The inventions controls could be built into the dashboard, and not as ilustrated onto the back of the visor (ilustrated Fig 2)
5. The lighting panel could be built into the vehicle other than into the visor.
6. The invention is suitabie for cars, vans, lorries, motor bicycles, buses and coaches.
7. The colours used for the lights need not be as indicated, if required to be different for any reason.
