Abstract
220,823. Price, G. B., and Quirk, Barton, & Co., Ltd. Sept. 17, 1923. Filtering; dust &c., separating from air.-In a process for the production of litharge in a pan 1, the fumes pass to a separating chamber 13 having vertical baffles 14, 15 which arrest metallic particles and direct them down a flue 16 where they collect upon a weighted cone valve 17, and, when of sufficient weight, depress the valve and re-enter the pan 1. The oxide fume is passed by means of a cold air jet 19 through a flue 20 to a settling chamber 21, air being injected by a fan 22 at a point near the settling chamber. Lead oxide collects upon a weighted valve 26 at the bottom of the settling chamber and discharges into a container 27. The suspended lead oxide passes with the exit gas by a pipe 23 to a fabric balloon 24 which is pervious to gas but not to solid particles, and finally collects upon a spring-controlled valve 25 which returns it to the settling chamber.
