Abstract

Vaporizing-apparatus.-The vaporizing tube H of a hydrocarbon vapour lamp is heated initially by a burner consisting of an asbestos-topped cotton wick carried by two concentric tubes A, A<1> which are supported by arms F on a sleeve C slidable on a tube H. The upper part of the outer tube A<1> carries a perforated gallery D having a rim D' preferably curved inwardly. Petroleum is poured into a trough B at the base of the tubes A, A<1> and passes through apertures C in the tube A<1> to the wick. The flame from the wick draws air through the tube A, through the perforations E in the gallery D, and through a space I between the gallery D and the lamp globe or chimney J, Fig. 1. or an apertured mica disc J<1> carried by a ring J<2> on the lamp shade J, Fig. 2, a smokeless flame being thereby obtained. Alternatively, instead of providing the air space I, air-holes may be formed in the globe J or additional holes provided in the gallery D.
