Abstract
220,710. Etchells, H., Popplewell, A., and Cameron & Son, Ltd., L. May 22, 1923. Alloys.-Iron alloys contain 26-50 per cent of nickel, 5-30 per cent of chromium, and not more than 0.25 per cent of carbon, with or without not more than a total of 2 per cent of one or more of the following elements : manganese, silicon, aluminium, magnesium, sulphur, phosphorus, molybdenum, tungsten, vanadium, uranium, copper, and titanium. Cobalt may be substituted for part or all of the nickel. The alloys may be made by the reduction of oxides of one or more of the metals by means of a reducing-agent such as silicon, magnesium, or aluminium. The alloys are resistant to the action of acids and may be used for making bright metal decorations, table ware, cooking and other utensils for food, and valves. According to the Provisional Specifications, the nickel may be 20-50 per cent, and the carbon up to 0.3 per cent.
