Abstract
A sausage frying pan has a support surface (20) having a plurality of parallel troughs (23) extending there across. The troughs are adapted to locate and partially surround sausages placed therein. At the bottoms of the troughs there may be upstanding protrusions which are adapted to support the sausages out of contact with the lower most regions of the troughs. <IMAGE>
Description
THE DUN-IN-WUN SAUSAGE FRYER
THIS INVENTION relates to cooking pans.
The invent on relates more particularly to pans zor cooking sausages. Many pans are suitable for cooking sausages such as conventional roasting and frying pans, but do not provide special support for the sausage during cooking.
According to the invention, 2 pan comprises a sort surface having a plurality of parallel side by side troughs extending across at least a portion of the pan so that the sides of the troughs surround a lower part of sausages placed In the pan for cooking.
The bases of each trough may be formed with one or more upstanding protrusions arranged to support the bottom or the sausages out of contact with the lowermost regions of the troughs.
Liquid, usually fats can collect under the sausages next to the protrusions. The troughs are connected together by openings or apertures so that liquid can fiow between the troughs.
The pan may be arranged with part of its cooking surface, say one half, having a planar surface and the other half having the plurality of troughs for the sausages.
Frying pans according to the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- Figure 1 is a top plan view G one pan; Figure 2 is z cross sectional elevation on
A-A of the pan of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a cross sectional elevation of
another pan; and
Figure 4 is an isometric view of a further
pan.
Referring to the drawings in Figures 1 and 2 the pan has a support surface formed with a plurality of troughs (10) into which sausages fit. The sides of the troughs surround at least the lower part of respective sausages. The sausages are supported out of contact with the lowermost regions of the troughs by upstanding protrusions (11) at the bottom of each trough. The protrusions (11) and the sides of the troughs do not quite extend to the side of the pan so that excess fats or other liquids which collect during cooking at each side of the protrusions can flow around the side of the pan to the front or rear of the pan (12) or (13). The excess fat can also be conveniently poured out of the pan via a spout (14).
In use, the sausages can De turned, (rotated) in the troughs as required during cooking but in any event the sausages are held straight and separated from any other sausages in the pan by the troughs.
In Figure 3, the pan is generally the same as the pan in Figures 1 and 2 although the troughs and protrusions (11) are of somewhat different configurations. The pan of Figure 3 differs essentially by a plantar pan area (15). Sausages can be cooked in the troughs (10) but the area (15) is generally provided for cooking other foods such as bacon rashers and eggs.
The pan in Figure 4 is similar to the pan of Figure 3. Around a flat area (20) provided for cooking eggs and the like there is 2 tough (21) where excess fluids can collect. In fact it is preferred hat the flat surface be raise relative to the remaining lowermost surface regions as indicated v numeral 22.
The troughs 23 in this instance have flat bottoms and are defined by parallel upstanding rides 24 which terminate short of the sidewalls 25 of the pan. This enables fats or other fluids to flow to and from the troughs freely.
The pan has a hollow boss 2c in which a transverse pin 27 is fixed so that z hooked wire 25 can be used to hold a handle 29 in position by tensioning the wire 28 passing through the handle with a nut 30 or the like at the end of the handle remote from the boss. The pan is conveniently made of cast iron whic@ may be enamelled and the handle may be made of wood.
Claims (3)
1. A pan comprising a support surface having
a plurality of, parallel side by side
troughs extending across at least a
portion of the pan the sides of the
troughs being adapted to surround a lower part of sausages placed in the pan for
cooking.
2. r. pan as claimed in claim 1 in which the
bases of each trough may be formed with
one or more upstanding protrusions arranged to 'support the bottom of the sausages out of contact with the lowermost
regions of the troughs.
3. A pan as claimed in either of claims 1 or
2 in which the troughs are connected
together by openings so that liquid can
flow between the troughs.
