Abstract

218,110. Marks, E. C. R., (Eclipse Machine Co.). July 12, 1923. Presses, mechanical.-A power press comprises a continuously rotated ram and a control member adapted to rotate therewith so that, when the rotation of the control member is retarded, a longitudinal movement is imparted to the ram. The press comprises a vertical column 2 mounted on a base 1 and carrying a vertically adjustable table 5. The ram 7 is mounted in a vertical cylinder 19 formed at the top of the column 2, and is returned automatically to its normal position by a counterweight 22 suspended from a rope 20, 21 which is connected to the top of the ram by a swivelling yoke 34, Fig. 5. A cap 1 is provided to close the end of the cylinder 19 and to prevent over-travel of the ram. The ram is operated from the drive shaft 6 through worm-gearing 9, 10, Fig. 2, enclosed in a casing 8, the hub 11 of the gear 10 being secured to spline keys 12 held in recessed keyways in the ram. The control member comprises a nut 23 internally threaded to engage a similar thread on the ram and provided with a rim 24. The latter is surrounded by a band brake operated by a foot lever 27, rod 33, and bell-crank lever 32.
