Abstract

543,717. Screw presses. HINDLE, J. H. Oct. 12, 1940, No. 15201. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XVII] Relates to a baling press of the kind in which the press box A is movable for filling and the platen C is operated by a non-rotatable screw. According to the invention the platen is operated by two screws G spaced from one another and actuated in unison, preferably by a single electric motor E. The motor drives, by a belt pulley e<SP>4</SP>, a pinion g which gears with a. pair of spur wheels H each of which is journalled in a bearing F and forms a nut on a screw G. A projection j<SP>1</SP> in one of the screws, and another on the platen, may be provided to actuate switches mounted on the frame, to limit the travel of the platen in either direction.
