Abstract

Envelopes. - In envelopes of the kind wherein the flap or an extension thereof is inserted through a slot in the back panel and passed down between the back panel and a piece or strip attached thereto, so that a barb or thickening at the end of the flap or flap extension engages the attached piece when an attempt is made to withdraw the flap, the engagement is obtained by providing the attached piece 7 with a slot 8 through which is passed a catch piece 9 secured at the end of the flap extension 4. The flap extension 4 may be of stiffer material than the remainder of the envelope, and at its junction with the flap 3 is substantially the same width as the slot 6 in the back panel 2. The catch piece 9 is affixed to the inner side of the flap extension 4 with one edge provided with projections 10 overlapping the flap extension and unaffixed. The piece 7 is made of paper or other material and is secured, preferably by adhesive, around its edges to the inside of the back panel 2. In a modification, the piece attached to the back panel is provided with a narrow slot having strengthening pieces at its ends, and the catch piece on the flap extension is formed by making the flap extension of greater length and folding it upon itself to form a triangular portion of several thicknesses which are held together by a staple or other means.
