Abstract

215,997. JuhÓsz, K. June 22, 1923. Steam-engine and like in.:lic.1tors.-Relat,es toindicators for high-speed engines of the type in which the indicator cylinder is connected momentarily to the engine cylinder, the diagram being taken during a number of successive cycles. and consists in improvements in the controlling' valve. The valve controlling communication between the branches 6, 7 which connect the indicator and the engine cylinder is formed as a slide valve adapted to be oscillated by a crank on a driven shaft 1. In Fig. 3 the valve is shown as comprising a ported sleeve 11, and a plug 12 having a groove 18, both members being oscillated by connecting rods from cranks on the driven shaft 1. The valve may, however, consist of a single piston with a circular groove, or of twosliding plates, and the branch 7 may be formed as a plug protruding into the centre of the valve. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the connecting slots 18, 19 in the valve members are larger on the inlet side than on the outlet side. The valve actuating shaft 1 is driven from the engine shaft through an epicyclic gear, Fig. 8. which permits of phase-displacement. The pinions 23, 26 on the engine-driven and valve-actuating shafts 21, 22 respectively are connected by planet pinions 24, 25, the planet carrier 28 of which is rotated through a worm gear 30 by hand or automatically. An adjustable pin 36 on an arm 32 carried by a strap on an eccentric boss 31 of the carrier 28 is connected to and actuates the paper drum of the indicator. The pin 36 is guided in a slot in an angularly adjustable arm 33. Large engine pressures may be reduced or small engine pressures increased by a double piston device 61, 62, Fig. 10, interposed between the engine cylinder and the controlling valve. The pipe between the controlling valve and the indicator may be filled with oil. c.
