Fluid-pressure.-Relates to fluid-pressure braking apparatus for railway trains comprising accelerating chambers into which the train-pipe is vented by the triple valves in applications of the brakes and consists in the provision of means for closing the exhaust passage from these chambers when valves for retaining a minimum pressure in the brake cylinders during the release of the brakes are operative as on gradients whereby the accelerating device is ineffective except during the initial application of the brakes. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement when a removable retaining valve is employed. This valve 10, 13 is adapted to be secured to a stationary head 11 and is then connected' by a pipe 8 to the brake cylinder exhaust passage of the triple valve 2. It is provided also with a passage 13 connected by a pipe 9 to the exhaust port of the accelerating bulb 3, this passage 13 being closed by the rubber gasket 12 when the valve is in position. The brake cylinder is shown at 1 the auxiliary reservoir at 6 and the train-pipe at 4. A simple cutout cock may instead be disposed in the pipe 9. When the retaining valve is stationary, a cock 15, Fig. 3 may be provided adapted in one position to connect the pipe 8 to the retaining valve proper 16 and to close the pipe 9 as shown and in another position to cut off the connection of the pipe 8 to the retaining valve and to connect the pipe 9 to an exhaust passage 18.
