215,289. Barnes, E. Feb. 18, 1924. Eyeglasses.-The resiliency of spring placquets for eyeglasses is adjusted by varying the position of the spring. The spring is flexible in all directions at right angles to its length and its resiliency is determined by the position of the rigid body. Several examples are described in the Specification. In one example, Figs. 1 and 2, the flexibility of the spring placquet A is modified by several rigid bodies B enveloping portions of its length as shown. The spring A is doubled to provide a loop at one end, and free ends at the other. One of the rigid bodies B' is double to carry elastic cushions E, Fig. 8, comprising a stud provided with a coiled spring F. In other modifications all the rigid bodies embrace both parts of the spring A. In a further example, Figs. 11 and 12, the placquet is curved at the central portions and one of the rigid bodies envelopes also a separate spring member J clamping it to the spring at the curved central part. The spring member J extends in both directions and is fitted with elastic cushions. The rigid bodies instead of enveloping the springs may be enclosed thereby.
