' This invention is .a continuation in part of application Serial No. 630,386, filed Aug. 25,, 1.932, new in course of prosecution in the Patent Oilice and the object of this invention is to provide a belt buckle wherein an elastic tensioning means isprovided between the buckle and the end of the belt attached thereto for allowing the expansion and contraction of the belt while in position upon the waist of the wearer for thereby preventing the usual necessity of the adjustment of the belt while in use. Another object of this invention is to produce a means for attaching a belt end to this particular style of buckle without it being necessary to retain the spring and yoke parts of the buckle between the belt and its folded back end, and thereby eliminate excessive thickness at this point. By my novel invention the belt end can be attached to this buckle and secured in its natural flat way.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a back view of one form of my invention disclosing the manner of attachment to a belt.
Figure 2 is a detailed view of another suggested form of the spring expansion member which might be incorporated in the form of buckle alluded to in this application.
Figure 3 is a detailedview of a third suggested form of the spring expansion member.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the form showing the combined yoke and belt engaging jaw such as is employed in the embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail;
Figure 1 indicates a buckle body 1, of suitable form such as generally rectangular having inturned flanges 2 and 2a on opposite sides, having inwardly directed ears constituting journal mountings. In this figure the belt connector assembly consists of a yoke 6 formed from a piece of material which is bent upon itself to form a U shape member having its ends 10 connected with the transverse bar 3. The yoke carries a compression spring 5, and slidably mounted on the yoke and thru the openings '7 is the belt connector 4, the belt connector being movable against the pressure of the spring; the belt end is passed thru the loop end of the connector or fastened to the connector in any suitable manner.
The ends of the cross bar 3 are provided with pivots 9 and 9a, these are journaled in the mentioned journal mountings of the buckle body. The bar 3 carries on its under face a belt engaging jaw whereby the free end of the belt is adjustably retained by clamping it etwe n the jaw and the underside of the buckle body.
Figure 2 is another form of belt connector assembly that may be attached to the buckle body of Figure 1, the U shapeyoke '26 being connected 0 with the transverse rod 8 carried on the yoke is the spring 5.. The belt connector 4 is carried on the yoke thru the openings 7 of the .connector and is movable against the preswre of the spring. Mounted on the transverse rod is a clamping jaw 3 which'cooperates with the buckle body to hold the belt. The ends of the rod 3 are pivotally journaled into the journal mountings of the buckle body.
Figure 3 is another form of yoke and belt connector that may be attached to the buckle body of Figure 1. The yoke 13 is a rod having on its one end a transverse piece or disk 16, the spring 12 being carried on the yoke and abuts against the part 16. The belt connector 11 is carried by the yoke thru the opening '7; the belt connector is movable against the pressureoi the spring. The yoke is connected with the transverse rod 8, and mounted on the rod is the clamping jaw 3, the ends of the'rod are pivotally received by the buckle body, and the buckle body cooperates with the clamping jaw to hold the belt. The belt connector 11 has the opening 15 in one end to receive the end of a belt.
Figure 4 is the form of the combined yoke 6 and the bar 3 as used in Figure 1, the bar having on one lateral face a gripping jaw as shown, and the pivots 9 and 9a. The ends of the yoke my be attached to the bar by means of openings in the bar, or the bar may be cast around theends of the yoke; in this method of construetion, the ends of the yoke would be bent as at 10ashown in Figure 1 to securely hold the ends of the yoke in the bar.
It is believed that the above descriptions and ,95 the drawing make clear the nature of my inven-f tion and the manner of making and using same.
It is to be definitely understood that I do not desire to limit the application of this invention to the particular modification set out herein to illustrate the principles thereof, and changes may be made in material or structure or arrangements of parts consistent with the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim:
1. A belt buckle of the class described comprising a'buckle body, and a belt connector assembly, said connector assembly comprisinga yoke having the ends of the member forming the yoke connected with a transverse member, a buckle i1 body receiving the ends of the transverse member, a belt connector provided at one end with openings and a belt connecting portion at the other end, said connector slidably carried by the yoke through said openings, a spring on the yoke cooperating with the belt connector for resisting longitudinal movement of the connector on the yoke, and a belt engaging'jaw carried by said assembly for cooperating with said buckle body for holding a portion of the belt.

A belt buckle of the class described comprising a buckle body, and a belt connector assembly, said connector assembly comprisinga U shape yoke having the ends of the member forming the yoke connected with .a transverse connecting portion at' the other end, said connector slidably carried by the yoke through said openings, a spring on the yoke cooperating with the belt connector-on the yoke. 3. A belt buckle of the class described comprising a buckle body, and a belt connector assembly, said connector assembly comprising a U shape yoke having the ends of the member form- 'ing the yoke connected with a transverse rod, :1
buckle body pivotally receiving the ends of said rod, a belt connector provided at one end with a pair of openings and a belt connecting portion at the other end, said connector slidably carried by the, yoke through said openings, a spring on the yoke cooperating with the belt connector for resisting longitudinal movement of the connector on the yoke, and a belt engaging jaw carried by said assembly for cooperating with said buckle body for holding a portion of the belt.
4. A belt buckle of the class described comprising a buckle body, and a belt connector assembly, said connector assembly comprising a yoke member carrying a spring, one end of said yoke member connected with a transverse rod, means on'the other end of said yoke member to retain the spring, the ends of said rod pivotally received by a buckle body, a belt connector having an opening at one end and a belt connecting portion at the other end, said connector slidably carried by. the yoke'through said opening-said spring cooperating .with the belt connector for resisting longitudinal movement of the connector on the yoke member, and a belt engaging jaw- 1 carried by said assembly for cooperating with DORSEY M. WIRTH.
