Abstract
215,120. Goodwin, J. M. H. Feb. 12, 1923. Lamps forming a line of light.-A vehicle or like lamp has an upper semi-circular or slightly more than semi-circular reflecting cylinder DE and a lower substantially parabolic reflecting cylinder DG, and a source of light so disposed with respect to said reflectors that no part of it, or of its image formed by the upper reflector DE, lies outside a region bounded in front by a plane MG passing through the lower edge G and focal line F of the lower reflector DG, and at the bottom either by the horizontal plane DH through the lower edge E of the upper reflector DE or the horizontal plane through the focal line F of the lower reflector DG whichever plane is the higher. In one form, Fig. 2, where the upper reflector DE is slightly greater than a semi-circle, the light source may be placed anywhere within a prism LKFM, two of whose sides lie along the planes MG, DH and whose centre line is the axis C of the upper reflector. A linear source of light may be used having its centre on the axis C and its lower end at the focus F of the lower reflector. In another arrangement, a linear source of light is disposed along the axis of the upper reflector. Side reflectors may be provided, and may consist of vertical cylinders to concentrate the light in a forward direction.
