Strands of special section, wire ropes with. - Endless wire bea.ds or grommets such as used in pneumatic tyres are made of sector-shaped wire 1 Fig. 2, which is formed into a helix about an axis 5 and then wound upon itself to form the grommet as shown in Fig. 3. The wire may be formed with a projection or lip on one side and a corresponding recess on the other side so that adjacent convolutions interlock. A central core wire may be employed, in which case the wire is of keystone section, also a helical groove can be produced in the grommet by having a groove in the curved side of the wire 1 or by rounding-off the corner of this wire. The grommet is completed by connecting the adjacent ends of the wire with a clip or by soldering or welding, and the bead is then stretched to size.
