Abstract
An advertisement and/or sign device comprises a single integral sheet 10 of material divided by two fold lines parallel to each other into three panels, such that either side panel 19 or 20 can be folded against the central panel 21 to show printed matter at 11 or 12 through a window ABCDE of the middle panel. The sheet 10 may be of transparent P.V.C. or of opaque material with a cut-out window. The side panels 19, 20 may display alternative advertisements 11, 12 with the "open" or "closed" sign. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Advertisement and/or sign device
This invention relates to an advertisement and/or sign device suitable for attachement to the inside of a shop window and adjustable for showing two different advertisements and/or signs. Such devices are known comprising a card by which a fixed advertisement is displayed but signs "open" and "closed" can be alternatively shown through a set of windows in the card by moving a separate piece that is slidably or rotatably mounted on the card. The disadvantage of these known devices is the complication and cost of the various operations required for making them.
According to the present invention an advertisement and/or sign device comprises a single integral sheet of material divided by two fold lines parallel to each other into three panels, such that either side panels can be folded against the central panel to show printed matter thereon through the middle panel.
Thus one side panel may be printed with the notice "open" together with an advertisement while the other side panel is printed with the notice "closed" with the same or a different advertisement.
The device is preferably a plastics sheet material provided with fold lines by heating the sheet along these localised lines and bend over the side panels and pressing them against the middle panel.
The sheet may be covered with opaque printing ink apart from a part or the whole of the middle panel through which the adjacent side panel can be seen. Aiternatively the middle panel may have a cut-out aperture through which the adjacent side panel can be viewed. The side panels will be opaque so that the rear panel will not be visible.
The printing on the side panels will be arranged so as to be visible through the middle panel.
Means will be provided for attaching the device to the shop door window e.g. the front of the middle panel may be coated with a self-adhesive type of adhesive temporarily protected with a peel-off film or a plurality of separate doublesided-adhesive pads may be provided.
The invention will be further described by way of exampie with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawing.
The device comprises a single integral sheet 10 of transparent polyvinyl chloride type plastics which is initially printed with an opaque printing ink covering the entire sheet with the exception of a window A-B-C-D-E. This is then overprinted with the sign "open" on one side and "closed" on the other side and with an advertisement at 11 and the same or a different advertisement at 12.
In practice a large number of these sheets will be an integral part of a very large sheet on which all the printing is effected. For example the opaque background may be printed by a screen printing method and the subsequent printing by litho printing.
The large sheet is then cut into the separate sheets 10 which are then processed in a machine provided with two heating bars which heat the sheet along the lines 1 5-16 and 1 7-18 so as to soften the sheet on these lines. The side panels 19-20 are then folded over by folding arms to lie one upon the other against the middle panel 21 and are pressed flat.
Then the front surface of the middle panel 21 is roller coated with self-adherent adhesive and covered with a protective film e.g. silicone film.
Alternatively the entire sheet may be of opaque material or coated with opaque printing ink and the windows A-B-C-D-E will then be cut out.
The printing of "open" and "closed" and the advertisements 11, 12 will be arranged to be fully visible through the window A-B-C-D-E.
1. An advertisement and/or sign device comprising a single integral sheet of material divided by two fold lines parallel to each other into three panels, such that either side panels can be folded against the central panel to show printed matter thereon through the middle panel.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1 comprising a plastics sheet provided with fold lines by heating the sheet along the required fold lines, bending over the side panels and pressing them against th( middle panel.
3. A device as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein the sheet is made from transparent plastics sheet material and is covered with opaque printing ink apart from a part or the whole of the middle panel through which the adjacent side panel can be seen, and is then overprinted with matter to be displayed.
4. A device as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein the middle panel has a cut out portion through which the adjacent side panel can be seen.
5. A device as claimed in any of the preceding ciaims wherein means are provided on the panel for attaching the device to a shop door window.
6. A device as claimed in any of the preceding claims wherein the front surface of the middle panel is coated with self-adherent adhesive and covered by a removable film.
7. A device as claimed in claim 1 substantialiy as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
8. A method for making devices as claimed in claim 3 wherein a large sheet ofplastics material is printed with opaque material and overprinted, then cut into numerous pieces each for one device, and then heated and bent at the required fold lines.
9. A method as claimed in claim 7 wherein the opaque printing is effected by screen printing and the overprinting is effected by litho-printing.
