Abstract

212,138. Ruths, J. K., (known as Ruths, J.). April 4, 1923. Safety-valves. - Steam from a locomotive boiler is passed into a storer through a non - return valve and an overflow valve, Fig. 3, containing a diaphragm a counterbalanced by a spring b and actuating a cone d on a spindle c so as to admit steam to the storer when the steam pressure passes a determined valve. When pressure in the storer is excessive, the steam actuates a diaphragm f, Fig. 4, spring g and valve h to admit steam from the storer to a piston i which operates a valve l in the pipe L<4> against the action of a spring k, so that live steam may pass through to an injector which forces water through a spray in the storer.
