Abstract
A method of timing spark machining pulses for use in spark machining of work pieces comprises the steps of connecting a tool electrode and a work piece electrode separated by a spark gap (1) to respective output terminals of a supply unit, generating a voltage pulse, decreasing current intensity related to the voltage pulse to zero following the spark-over delayed with a delay time, and generating after an interval a new voltage pulse. The duration of the intervals is regulated in dependence on the average value of the delay time or on machining conditions. An apparatus for performing this method has a pulse generator (2) connected into the spark gap (1), a timer (8) and an optimum finder (7) which is connected to the input of the timer (8), wherein the output of the timer (8) is connected to the pulse generator (2) and to the optimum finder (7). <IMAGE>
