Abstract

210,916. Holle, A. A. Nov. 29, 1922. Jackets and covers; tread bands and projections; tyre attachments to rims.-The cover 1, Fig. 1, of a tyre has edges shaped to form flat bottomed feet 2, and is reinforced with layers of cord 3, the loops of the cord engaging spaced projections 4 on rings 5 at the foot of the cover. The flat rim 6 has a fixed flange 7 and a detachable flange 8, the cover being secured to the wheel by a series of transverse bolts 9 which pass through both rim flanges 7, 8 and the feet 2, and engage the rings 5. The air tube 11 has a radial flange adapted to lie between the inner faces of the feet 2, holes 13 in the flange being formed for passage of the bolts 9. The rings 5 may be formed of strips or of wire, and are spaced by washers 15, being coupled together by the bolts 9 or bv auxiliary bolts. An inextensible canvas band' 18, Fig. 8, is placed between the rubber tread 17 and the cord layers 3, and is secured to both the fabric and the rubber, projections 19 on the band 18 being formed to correspond with ridges on the tread. These projections may be formed by folding the band on itself and securing the folds. Straps connect the bands 18 with the feet 2 of the cover.
