Apparatus for making filaments.- The gutter or channel b over which the artificial silk &c. thread or yarn a passes, is provided with one or more bends d, and the treating liquid supplied from a vessel n is arranged to fall directly on the bend, or on one of the bends, and in such a manner that it flows along both portions k, l of the gutter. As shown, the gutter has two portions, and it is preferred that the length of the portion k should be twice that of the portion l. From the gutter, the thread passes to a spool c, on which it is further treated with the liquid passing along the portion k of the gutter. When passing over the bend of the gutter, the filaments of the thread are opened out so as to be more freely exposed to the liquid.
