Abstract

Starch-containing material is mechanically colloidalized in presence of water and a chemical agent such as an alkali, a high-speed mill such as that described in Specification 155,836, [Class 59, Grinding, crushing, &c.], being used. Fatty material may be added in addition to the alkali, and the alkali, and the compositions may be made more transparent by addition of ammonia. Examples of suitable proportions and conditions are given. Specification 156,142 also is referred to.
