Abstract

208,434. Englesson, J. E. Feb. 15, 1923. Screw propellers.-In screw propellers wherein the angularity of the blades is adjustable, each blade turns on two bearings, one bearing 9 being cylindrical and taking the radial thrust, the other bearing 10 taking the thrust parallel to the axis of the cylindrical bearing. The bearing 10 comprises a ring secured in a channel in the hub 1 or the blade flange 7 and running with a clearance 11 in a channel 2 in the blade flange or hub. The angularity of the blade is adjusted by the turning of crank-pins 17<1> on the blade flanges by means of the longitudinal movement of a rod 3 carrying a cross-head 8. The bearing 9 may be conical or spherical; it may comprise several concentric cylindrical bearings, and the outer bearing 10 may be somewhat conical or spherical. Lubricating oil is forced under pressure through channels 14 to the bearings by means of pumps 25 actuated by the flange 6 carrying the cross-head 8. The pump rod 25 is surrounded by a loose sleeve 26 having a clearance 29 at its lower end adjacent the adjusting nut. the oil being pumped from the interior of the hub.
