Abstract
205,624. Jardine, Sir E., Watchorn, E., and Jones, F. H. Haslam-. Aug. 21, 1922. Lace machines.-For the production of fabrics which resemble woven fabrics more closely in structure than ordinary twist lace, weft-thread laying devices mounted on carriers and operated by cables and pulley gear are provided. The bobbin-carriage actuating mechanism is modified so as to give a dwell. The cranks S which impart the primary movement to the catch-bar mechanism each work in a slot T<1> in an oscillating arm T to which the link V is connected. The curve of the slot T' coincides with the path of the crank pin at one part of its revolution and thus provides a dwell, which is timed to occur while the wefts are laid. Each thread-layer A is mounted on a carrier B which travels on wires C disposed below, say, the front comb bar D. The carriers B are connected to a cable E which runs under a pulley J on a bracket H at one end of the machine and round two sets of sheaves F, G, the end of the cable being secured at H<1>. There is a similar arrangement at the other end of the machine, so that when the pulley block G<2> at one end is pulled down the other pulley block is drawn up. For this purpose the blocks G<2> are connected by cables N to levers K, either directly or, as shown, passing round two sets of pulleys 0, P. The levers K are fitted with hinged struts R which when in position as shown engage camoperated levers L but can be drawn aside by cables R<1> connected to a jacquard or to oscillating levers.
