Unpacking.-Relates to machines for emptying cases of their contents such as bottles, which are conducted in single file or other desired orientation to filling or other machines. The filled cases 1, Fig. 1, with bottles inserted therein, are delivered to the machine over a trestle 2 comprising a series of rollers 3, and are tilted by hand on to a tilting table 8 suitably counterweighted, which is swung through a right angle to the position shown, the case being then inverted and the bottles right way up. The case and the bottles are moved to the left bv a conveyer 28 comprising sprocket chains 29, a link of which is shown in Fig. 8. Each link has a sliding piece 36, bolts 39 and a slot 38 limiting the action of a spring 41. Bevelled projections 37 receive the edges of the cases, and, as the conveyer 28 moves to the left, gradually lift them from the bottles. The succeeding part of the travel of the conveyer 28 is relatively steeper than the first part, as shown in Fig. 1 and the cases are tilted over at the top on to a roller trestle 51, being again inverted in the transference. The bottles are moved to the left by a conveyer 18 between ledges 67, 68, Fig. 10. A group of bottles may be broken up and forwarded in single file by the means shown in Fig. 10. A switch 75, pivoted at 76, is moved to one of the three positions shown, and switches 77 - - 79 divert the bottles into one or more of the discharge channels 69 - - 72. Star discs 86 are rotated oppositely to the motion of the bottles to prevent jamming. Canopies 91 - - 93 protect the various parts of the machine.
