Bottling; filling jars and like receptacles.- In apparatus for filling bottles, jars, and other vessels with regulated quantities of liquids or semi-liquids in which a row of filling-nozzles is provided and simultaneously operable valves are arranged to control the flow of liquid &c., the valves are controlled by mechanical means not dependent on the vessels for its action and a horizontal reeiprocating table is preferably provided to support the bottles &c. and bring them into and out of filling position. The distributing-box 2, connected by a pipe 3<a> to a supply tank, is arranged at the upper end of the main frame 1 of the apparatus and connected by ,pipes 3 to valve casings 4 which terminate at the bottom in filling-nozzles 5. Each pipe 3 is provided with a hand-controlled cut-off cook 6 and each casing 4 contains an inverted conical plug valve 7. The! stems 8 of the valves are screwed adjustably into the lower ends of hanging shackles 9 pivotally mounted to a beam 11 which is mounted in the forked upper ends of the frame and rests at the ends upon cams 13 carried by a shaft 12. A heating &c. fluid may be circulated through the hollow jacket 14 surrounding the casings 4. The shaft 12 is driven through change-speed gearing comprising a set of stepped toothed pinions 17 either of which - can be locked to the shaft by means of a key 39 connected by an extension 40 to a collar 18 having pins 19 engaging the forked ends of a had-lever 20 pivoted on a bracket 22 on the frame 1. The table 26 which is wide enough to carry two rows of bottles 25 slides in horizontal guides 27 and is actuated by a toothed segment 36 gearing with a rack 37 on the under side of the table. A pin 29 on a disc crank 28 on one end of the shaft 12 engages a slot in a lever 30 pivoted at 31 to the frame, and the lower arm of the lever engages alternately two arms 32, 33 on a boss 34 on the shaft 35 carrying the segment 36. The intervals between the reciprocations of the table are occupied by the filling of the bottles 25 beneath the nozzles 5. Cups 41 with studs 38 to screw into holes in the table may be provided to position the bottles &c. on the table, and adapters 42 of different sizes may be provided to adapt the cups to different-sized bottles &c.
