Abstract
202,779. Lanyon, H. R. June 13, 1922. Mounting electric lamps in lanterns.-to position the source of light at the focus of a reflector in a vehicle &c. lamp, cam-actuated means are provided whereby the holder of the source of light, e.g. an electric lamp, is adjusted along a line traversing the axis of the optical system and transverse to its own axis. A lamp holder 1 is mounted in a sleeve 2 having at one end a flange 4 provided with vertical radial slots 5. The sleeve 2 passes through a vertical slot 7 in a collar 6 in which it is mounted and also through an eccentric hole 12 in a rotary cam 9 which is supported between pins 10 on the collar 6. On rotation of the cam 9 by the lugs 11, the sleeve 2 moves up or down in the slot 7 on the collar 6 and is locked in the desired position by a nut 13. To adjust the holder in a line at right angles to the line referred to above, a second cam and a collar with an horizontal slot is provided. In a modification, the cam may be constituted by a circular plate with an eccentric hole or by a snail cam provided with spring or other means to cause it to bear against a suitable abutment in the lamp casing.
