Abstract
202,552. Hargraves, C. M., and Minchin, A. E. Oct. 17, 1922. Strainers fitted in pipes.-A conoidal or cup-sharped screen c is aranged in a casing a so as to extend over a sump f formed by a downwardlyextending portion of the casing on the inflow side of the screen. The floor h of the casing may be inclined downwardly from the inlet end. Material accumulating on the screen may be dislodged by a jet of steam or liquid directed through a hole i. The sump f has a door g or other outlet for the solid matter. The apparatus is described as fitted in the suction pipe of a pump, the hole i being connected by a pipe to drain cocks at the ends of the steam cylinder by which the pump is driven.
