Abstract

A rotating cutter (4) cuts the granules from material extruded through perforations of a die member (3), a housing (9) which surrounds the cutter to form a granulating chamber having a generally upright axis, is provided with liquid supply means (8) to supply cooling liquid to the chamber top edge (17) so that the cooling liquid flows in a film over the chamber inner wall, to prevent the cut material from sticking to said inner wall and to cool the cut material. The liquid supply means may include a perforated pipe encircling the granulating chamber, or a weir (17) at the inner edge of an annular chamber (16). The position of housing 9 is adjustable by pneumatic cylinders 23, and coolant sensing means (20, 21) may act to switch of the extruder or the granulator. <IMAGE>
