Abstract

A brake pressure control unit suitable for use with diagonally-split dual-circuit motor vehicle brake systems. One brake circuit (HzI, RzI) includes a first valve (35, 36), while the other circuit (HzII, RzII) includes a second valve (21, 23). The second valve (21, 23) is controlled in dependence upon the difference in pressure prevailing between the inlet (4) and the outlet (28) sides of the first valve (35, 36) which includes a stepped pressure reducing piston 29 and is preferably controlled by a vehicle deceleration responsive ball 36 and a spring 37 which may urge the stepped piston towards or away from its inlet end. In normal operation identical pressures exist in both circuits, and in the event of failure of one brake circuit the brake pressure of the other brake circuit is either not reduced; or reduced to a lesser extent, in comparison with normal operation (Fig. 2) by having a larger outlet end than inlet end to the second valve piston 5. <IMAGE>
