Abstract

The invention relates to the manufacture of an incandescent lamp provided with a hard glass bulb. In contrast to the methods applied up to now, the preceding operation of glazing the current lead-ins is obviated by oxidising the conductors during pinch-sealing; furthermore, after sealing-in a controlled heat treatment is applied. The heat treatment is preferably performed in a two-zone annealing equipment: in the upper zone the bulb is annealed, while in the lower one the conductors are annealed. This enables the bulb and the conductors to be cooled at different rates. By using the invention for a given matching of the glass and the conductors, the stress conditions needed for sealing-in may be obtained even where there is a considerable difference in the coefficients of thermal expansion of the glass and the conductors. <IMAGE>
