Abstract

Agitating materials and liquids together.-The machine for moderating and dyeing hats and shapes described in Specification 16721/12, in which the goods are moved through the liquor in a trough A by means of paddles v carried by a rocking shaft a, the paddles being rotated at the ends of their travel as by engagement with worm gearing o carried by continuously-rotating shafts n, is modified in such a manner that at suitable intervals the main driving-mechanism is interrupted, the paddles for this period remaining stationary so as to permit the goods more evenly to absorb the liquor. For example, in the mechanism for driving the shaft a there is interposed a countershaft k, at which point the drive is transmitted through the clutch p, q; the arm u for operating the clutch carries at its end a short arm 12 capable of being fixed in either of two positions-in one position it engages a continuously driven cam y whose raised position serves to open the clutch and so to stop the machine for a determined position, while in the other position of the arm, the latter is clear of the cam and the machine runs continously; in order that the period of dwell may be adjusted, the cam comprises parts y, y<1> which are relatively adjustable so that the effective length of its raised portion may be varied.
