Abstract

Catheter and catheter placement system. The catheter (2) comprises a body portion (11) having a double wall structure consisting of an outer tube (14) made of a pliable nonthormbogenic material and an inner tube (15) made of pliable material having a rigidity sufficient to prevent the catheter (2) collapsing in use, said inner tube being more rigid than said outer tube, and a tip portion (16) at one end of the body portion (11), said tip portion (16) being made of a pliable nonthrombogenic material. The catheter placement system comprises a cannula, cannula insertion means having a needle which is longer than said cannula for inserting the cannula into a body, and which cannula insertion means is adapted to be removably engaged within the cannula during insertion thereof, and a catheter (2) of the present invention which is adapted for insertion into the body through the cannula after the cannula insertion means is removed from the cannula. <IMAGE>
