Abstract

A medical catheter is formed by a semi-rigid tube of polypropylene or polycarbonate, etc., having a total length of 10-30 cm. Its distal end is thinned down to 1mm outer ida. and is smooth over a distance of 5-50mm. The end may be straight or curved and where it is not reduced in size it is from 2-4mm outer dia. The proximal end opens into a socket which can be attached to a syringe. The catheter is used for the injection of fluides opaque to X-rays into the salivary and mammary ducts for radiographic purposes.
