Abstract

A method of and apparatus for unrolling and singling-out bags from a roll (1) of bags wound in staggered overlapping formation with the layers separated by strings or tapes (2) wherein a succession of bags is drawn onto a conveyor assembly having belts (6), the conveyor assembly being pivotable about the axis (9) of a front roller (7) thereof, pressed by units (10) against the roll (1) and feeding the bags until stopped by sensing means (14) with a leading upper bag (15) in a front stop position. Gripping means (27, 30, 31) then grip the bag (15) and pivot to pull the leading end clear after raising of an upper unrolling roller (18) and while the remainder of the stack is held by a clamp bar (25). A tip roller (16) then presses the trailing end of the bag (15) against a driven roller beneath the bag to feed out the trailing end. <IMAGE>
