Abstract

A machine for harvesting berries from a row of fruit bushes comprises a mobile housing having a throughpassage 4 extending fore-and- aft, so that, in use, the machine straddles the bushes as it moves along the row. The housing carries a pair of opposed rotary brushes 7 in said passage, troughs 5 at the lower end of the passage, and elevators 6 extending from said troughs. In operation, the rotary brushes sweep berries from opposite sides of the bushes, the berries fall into the troughs and are carried by the elevators to discharge points at opposite sides of the housing. Any berries which do not fall into the troughs or on to the elevators are prevented from falling to the ground by a pair of brushes 13 which project across the passage from opposite sides thereof and close the passage adjacent its lower end. These brushes are driven so as to have a component of movement by which berries falling on them are directed into the respective troughs. <IMAGE>
