Compiling and tabulating statistics mechanically.-Relates to improvements in selector devices for co-operating with shaped or perforated records in machines for compiling, recording and tabulating statistics and comprises a construction of parts so as to prevent contact between the record and the feeler of the selector device. On an axis 2 transverse to the direction of travel of the record cards are pivoted levers 1 carrying the feeling pins 4 for detecting the perforations in the cards and having an end 7 adapted to engage notches in a ratchet shaped cam 5 running synchronously with the cards. The cards are fed through perforated guide plates 9, 10. The feeler pins 4 are so formed and the cam 5 so timed that when a hole passes the pin drops through it and is lifted from it without touching either front or rear edges of the holes. The lever 1 is adapted to engage a spring-controlled toe 12 on a spring urged lever 11 coacting with mechanism such as a synchronously driven printing wheel, the lever 11 being restored to initial position on completion of a cycle of operation-.
