Abstract

A grapple, for attachment to the boom of a lifting machine to enable a pole, such as a telegraph pole, to be lifted from the ground, turned to a vertical or other selected position, and rotated about its axis, the grapple generally comprising an elongate supporting frame 13 connectable to a boom 12 so as to be movable pivotally between a horizontal position and a vertical position; a pair of arms 44 swingably mounted on the frame and openable between open and closed positions to receive a pole therebetween; endless flexible means 57 mounted on the arms for running movement, and having a pole confronting run 64 or runs exposed between the arms so as to be capable of gripping the pole when the arms are closed; and means for driving the endless flexible means so as to enable the endless flexible means to rotate the pole about its longitudinal axis. <IMAGE>
